SABRINA, THE GIRL WITH A HOLE IN HER HEART
FIRST THE BASICS!
During school visits, I offer an interactive presentation, and take questions from the students during my reading. I also bring a toy box of "show and tell" items: African spices from Zanzibar, a Spice Box and Dead Sea salts from Israel, posters, and enlarged pictures of an echocardiogram, a heart lung machine, and other visuals that I pass around to the children. I also allow time for students to share stories of challenges they have overcome and pose questions that help them understand the story's multicultural, humanitarian, and medical themes.
