FIRST THE BASICS!
During school visits, I read the story, and take questions from the students during my presentation. I also bring a toy box of "show and tell" items: African spices from Zanzibar, a Spice Box and Dead Sea salts from Israel, posters, and enlarged pictures of an echocardiogram, a heart lung machine, and other visuals that I pass around to the children. I also ask critical thinking questions following the story to help the students understand the story's multicultural, humanitarian, and medical themes.
